Unheard Beatles album 'planned'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4905630.stm
| Zitat: | Unreleased Beatles tracks are to be reworked for a Las Vegas circus show soundtrack, with an accompanying album reported to be lined up for release.
Producer Sir George Martin is making background music for the forthcoming Cirque du Soleil show by remastering unheard recordings by the band.
Variety says the band's label Apple Corps plans to release an album of "completely new music" from the show.
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are said to be overseeing the project.
The families of George Harrison and John Lennon have also been involved.
Announced in 2004, the Cirque du Soleil show is expected to open at the Mirage resort in Las Vegas this summer.
Remastered singles
Sir George's son Giles Martin, who is working on the project, told Variety they were trying to "achieve the same intimacy we get when listening to the master tapes at Abbey Road".
"I think we will achieve a real sense of drama with the music," he said.
"The audience will feel as though they are actually in the room with the band."
Cirque du Soleil is among the most popular Las Vegas shows
The Beatles remastered the unfinished tracks Free as a Bird and Real Love for release as singles in the mid-1990s.
The singles were taken from the band's Anthology sets of demos and rarities.
An album of the band's number one singles, entitled 1, was a chart-topper around the world in 2000.
Box sets such as the Capitol Albums collections of the US versions of the band's albums have also been released in recent years. |
| Liverpool Daily Post", 14.04.06 hat folgendes geschrieben: | BEATLES fans are growing excited about the prospect of a new album of "completely new music" by the band.
It is set to be released in the summer to coincide with an ambitious $100m interpretation of their music by the world-renowned acrobats of the Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas.
It's the first time the Beatles have sanctioned their music to be used on stage - and significantly the remaining members of the band are helping to shape it but will not be appearing in the show.
They are, however, going back in the studio to record the music for it with Beatles producer George Martin who believes the project will be an enormous success.
"The Beatles have always been extremely innovative and have always tried to look beyond the horizons," he says. "This is the first time in the theatre that the Beatles will be heard as they have never been heard before. I promise you that it will be a unique and magical experience."
Neil Aspinall, the head of Apple Corps, the Beatles record label, said the production "will involve the creation, by the remixing and remastering of the Beatles recorded performances, of completely new music which will be featured in the show and which should lead to the release of the show album."
It is believed the producers of the show - to be staged at the Mirage casino, which even has its own fire-belching artificial volcano - will have access to unreleased archive material including 200 hours of recorded conversations between the Beatles in the recording studio.
But despite sharing the enthusiasm the for the project, local Beatles experts believe that the "completely new music" line is misleading.
Bill Harry, the founder of Merseybeat magazine and who has written definitive works on the band, believes the material for the show will be "the standard Beatles stuff redone in a totally different way."
But he added: "I think whenever they get involved with something like this they always get it right. When they released their Number One hits album everyone followed suit. Then when they brought out the Anthology albums everyone copied that. It proves that they are still the leaders after all these years."
Cavern owner Bill Heckle has known about the project for the best part of three years and also believes that the idea of completely new Beatles songs being used as "impossible". He was also told that the Vegas project is so massive in concept it will take 10 years to recoup a profit.
He has also recently been to Vegas and seen some of the costumes designed for the show. They appear to be based on the film Yellow Submarine which may give a clue to what music may be used.
The Cavern supremo explained that the idea for the spectacular first came from George Harrison when he saw the acrobats in action two years before his death from cancer in 2001. He then became friends with Cirque's founder Guy Laliberte.
"It was really hip but also the idea of a circus without animals resonated with Harrison," said Mr Heckle.
" I think George promised they would work with them at some time. The others then thought that this was something they could do for George." He concluded: "Having seen the Cirque de Soleil in action I know that this is going to be their flagship and become the biggest and best show that they have ever done." |
